Clemmons Medical Center Plans Take Shape:
First construction phase to include ER, Imaging Center & Physician Offices
Novant Health has announced plans to build a 24-hour emergency department, an outpatient imaging center, an outpatient surgery center, and primary and specialty medical offices as part of the first phase of construction at its Clemmons Medical Center campus in western Forsyth County, North Carolina. The facility, which will include a 12-bay emergency department and an outpatient imaging center offering CT scan, x-ray and ultrasound services, will have approximately 35,000 square feet and cost $15 million. Novant also will spend an additional $8 million for road construction, site grading and building greenway trails with parking.
Construction is scheduled to begin in spring 2012 and is expected to be completed by early 2013, pending approval processes. The initial facility is projected to provide 80 full-time positions and will be staffed by experienced physicians, nurses and staff. Physicians and staff at the new emergency department will be able to quickly evaluate, stabilize and treat most injuries or illnesses treated at larger medical center emergency departments in the Winston-Salem area.
Novant’s Forsyth Medical Center emergency department in Winston-Salem is one of the largest in North Carolina, with more than 100,000 patient visits a year. When completed, the Clemmons Medical Center emergency department is expected to have more than 15,000 patient visits each year and be able to provide treatment for most medical emergencies and urgent care conditions.
Future development of the 42-acre medical center campus will include inpatient and other hospital-based services. Zoning for a future hospital and its 124-acre Village Point development that includes a new elementary school, greenways, walking trails, retail and residential development and a public park was approved by the Clemmons Village Council in July 2009.
Clemmons Medical Center and the Village Point development will bring millions of dollars in capital investments to the area and result in the creation of hundreds of new jobs for area residents.
