Hospital Moves Forward

On Tuesday, December 1, Novant Health and Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center announced an agreement that will allow the proposed 50 bed Clemmons Medical Center to move forward.  The agreement cleared the way for the State of North Carolina to issue a Certificate of Need for the new Clemmons hospital in the near future.  As part of the agreement, Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center can build a small hospital in Mocksville, should they choose, as well as continue moving forward with a proposed hospital in Bermuda Run.

The two healthcare organizations have agreed not to offer inpatient care at either hospital until 2016 or later, but to provide services including outpatient surgery and diagnostic imaging sooner.

"We believe this agreement allows each of our organizations to move forward with facilities that are appropriate and needed in the communities we now serve," says Greg Beier, president of Acute Care Services for Novant Health.  "It provides us with an opportunity to relieve congestion on our main campus by offering services that can be delivered at a smaller facility and it gives us time to plan for the future of Medical Park Hospital and the outstanding services we currently provide there."

Zoning for the hospital and its 124-acre Village Point development that includes a new elementary school, greenways, walking trails, retail and residential development and a public park was approved by the Clemmons Village Council on July 13, 2009.

Clemmons Medical Center and the Village Point development will bring millions of dollars in capital investments to the area and result in the creation of hundreds of new jobs for area residents.

We appreciate the strong support this plan has received from area residents as it has progressed.  From the more than 23,000 individuals who early on expressed support for our proposed hospital, to those who spoke at public hearings or wrote letters to the editor...YOU are the reason that this project is coming to life to improve access to quality healthcare, educational and recreational opportunities in the heart of Clemmons.

We especially thank the Clemmons Village Planning Board, the Village Council and the Village staff for their attention and hard work to help Novant Health develop a plan that will benefit western Forsyth County residents for many years to come.

We will continue to update this site as the plan progresses.  Thank you again for your support.
